Wellness Wednesdays: Alkalkine promoting foods

A delicate acid-alkaline balance exists in the human body, for example; slight acidity in your bowels, skin and vagina keeps unfriendly bacteria away whereas saliva is more alkaline. Unfortunately, most people’s diets include foods that are quite acidic, and thus inflammatory, such as meat and dairy products which results in an imbalance and resultant inflammation.

Tilting the pH scale in the alkaline direction is easy with a diet filled with mineral-rich plant foods. By eating a more alkaline diet (leafy greens, wheatgrass, veggies, sprouts, avocados, green juices and smoothies) as opposed to an acidic diet (high in animal products, processed carbs, refined sugar, energy drinks, etc), we flood our bodies with chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, and oxygen. Healthy food creates healthy cells. Conversely, junk goes in and junk comes out. – pH 101: Acid-Alkaline Balance & Your Health

Foods that help neutralise potentially toxic dietary acids, support organ health, trim body mass and reduce inflammation:

  • Honey
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus
  • Apples
  • Watermelon
  • Apples
  • Hazelnuts
  • Lemon Water
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrots
  • Green beans
  • Tomatoes
  • Potatoes
  • Celery
  • Bananas
  • Spinach
  • Raisins
  • Any leafy greens
  • Wheatgrass
  • Sprouts

Again, the “secret” is to eat healthily. In addition it is important to exercise, avoid cigarettes, alcohol and stress; all of which can cause acidity and inflammation in the body.
