Wellness Wednesdays: Sweet potatoes health benefit

Sweet potatoes are delicious and one of our favourite foods in winter! What makes them an even bigger priority on our shopping list are their extensive health benefits, including:

  1. High in vitamin B6: This vitamin is essential for more than 100 enzyme reactions involved in metabolism, improves your immmune system and helps to develop a baby’s brain during pregnancy.

  2. Good source of vitamin C: Most people are aware of the infection fighting benefits of vitamin C and in addition to this, this vitamin plays a very important role in bone and tooth formation, digestion and blood cell formation.

  3. Contain vitamin D: This vitamin is crucial for overall health – especially during winter when our exposure to the sun is limited. Read a full post on the benefits of vitamin D here.

  4. Contain iron: This mineral is involved in the production of haemoglobin and red blood cells, carries oxygen from one body cell to another and is vital to the proper functioning of muscles.

  5. Source of magnesium: Magnesium is known as the relaxation and anti-stress mineral. Magnesium transmits nerve pulses through your body, helps to regulate your body temperature, is involved in the natural detoxification process of your systems and aids in the absorption of calcium in your body.
